California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC)

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a newly established pathway designed to help California Community College (CCC) students complete the general education requirements necessary for a smooth transition to either the California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC) systems. The Cal-GETC pattern aims to help students avoid the need to take additional lower-division general education courses after transferring to a four-year institution. To complete the pattern, students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all classes.

Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, Cal-GETC will be the only lower-division general education pathway available for new students pursuing an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) or planning to transfer to a CSU or UC. Continuing students may not be required to follow the Cal-GETC pattern, depending on their catalog rights (review the catalog for more information). Students are strongly encouraged to meet regularly with a general counselor each semester to review and update their progress toward meeting their educational goals.

The Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates (ICAS), which represents faculty from California's three public higher education segments, oversees the policies and curriculum related to the Cal-GETC pattern.
