Articulation Office
What is articulation?
Articulation is the process of evaluating courses or a sequence of courses to determine whether a specific course offered by one educational institution (e.g., Napa Valley College) will meet the requirements for admission, transfer credit, general education, or lower-division major preparation at another institution (e.g., UC Davis).
The Articulation Office supports staff and students in comparing the content of courses transferred between postsecondary institutions. This process results in an articulation agreement. Articulation agreements are formal partnerships between two or more colleges, typically between a community college and a four-year university.
These agreements may also cover the transferability of coursework between community colleges. They document a clear pathway from one program to another at different institutions. In simpler terms, these partnerships make it easier for students to transfer from one school to another, ensuring that their credits will be accepted. Articulation agreements facilitate seamless transfers between institutions, helping students avoid the loss of credits in the process.
Transfer Institution Articulations
For students looking to transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC), CSU and UC transferable courses and course-to-course articulations for lower-division major preparation can be found at ASSIST.org.
