The Transcript Evaluator Office/Admissions and Records will review and process the
request. You will be notified via your Napa Valley College email when your form has
been processed.
If for any reason, the Transcript Evaluator Office/Admissions and Records cannot process
your request, they will note this on the Credit for Prior Learning Request Form and
email you on your Napa Valley College email.
For Military Credit:
The Veterans Resource Counselor will process the request and forward it to the appropriate
discipline faculty member.
The discipline faculty member will review the request and contact you if needed.
You will be informed of the decision via your Napa Valley College student email.
If granted credit by the faculty, you will have the option to accept or deny the credit
granted. If accepted, the credit will be on your student transcript.
For Credit by Examination:
Once the Credit for Prior Learning Request Form is submitted to Admissions and Records,
you will meet with the department coordinator or a department faculty designee to
discuss the next steps to process your request form.
If the department coordinator or faculty designee determine the Credit by Examination
assessment measures mastery of the course content, the faculty will sign the CPL petition
and forward it to Admissions and Records.
If granted credit by the faculty, you will have the option to accept or deny the credit
granted. If accepted, the credit will be on your student transcript.
For Industry Recognized Credentials:
Admissions and Records will process the request form.
Some industry credentials may have already been evaluated by faculty to be eligible
for Credit for Prior Learning. If your industry credential has already been evaluated
for Credit for Prior Learning, Admissions and Records may award credit for your credential
by:
Notifying you of which course(s) the industry credential can be awarded.
Confirming your option to officially receive credit for these course(s).
If you agree to receive credit, the credit awarded will be posted on your student
transcript.
If your industry credential has not yet been evaluated by faculty, the following actions
will take place:
You will meet with the department coordinator/faculty designee.
You will submit the industry credentials and corresponding documents to the faculty
member.
If the faculty member determines that the industry credentials submitted by you demonstrates
mastery of course content, the faculty will sign the Credit for Prior Learning Request
Form and forward it to Admissions and Records.
If granted credit by the faculty, you will have the option to accept or deny the credit
granted. If accepted, the credit will be on your student transcript.
For Student-Created Portfolio Assessment:
Admissions and Records will process your request.
You will meet with the department coordinator or faculty designee to discuss the next
steps to process your request form.
The student will submit a portfolio to the faculty following the instructions given.
If the faculty determines that the student portfolio that you submitted demonstrates
mastery of the course content, the faculty will sign the Credit for Prior Learning
Request Form and forward it to Admissions and Records.
If granted credit by the faculty, you will have the option to accept or deny the credit
granted. If accepted, the credit will be on your student transcript.
