Frequently Asked Questions

What is my username?

  • Your username is a combination of your first initial, last name, and the last five digits of your student ID. For example: Jane Smith 1234567, would have the username: jsmith34567. 
  • This username is also used for your student email address. Jane Smith 1234567's email will be jsmith34567@student.napavalley.edu. This email address is also used to log into Canvas and Office365. 

What is my first password?

  • The first time you login your initial (or temporary) password will be sent to your personal email with your welcome letter. If you did not receive a welcome letter email, please call 707-256-7215 and the Welcome Center will assist you.

I can't login. What do I do?

  • Use your MyNVC account to reset/change your password. Resetting your password in MyNVC resets the password for all accounts. MyNVC, Canvas, and Office 365 should all have the same password. When you reset your password in MyNVC, it resets the password in Canvas and Office 365 to match.
  • If for some reason you cannot successfully log in after resetting your password, please contact the Welcome Center and/or Distance Education for support. 

When will my classes appear in Canvas?

  • If you have completed the enrollment process, registered, and paid for your classes, then you should be able to see your classes appear on the Canvas Dashboard 10 days before the semester begins. 
  • Note: If you are missing classes from your Dashboard, go to Courses and select All Courses to see a complete list of your registered classes. Be aware that instructors must publish the class before students can see it on their Dashboard.
  • If you are adding a course after the start of the semester it may take up to 24 hours for the course to appear in your dashboard.
  • If you are missing a class on your Dashboard, the first step is to contact your instructor. 
  • If you and the instructor are unable to resolve the issue, then contact Distance Education.

  • If you have general questions about Canvas, or are having difficulty finding or navigating Canvas content, you may refer to the Canvas Student Guides or go to the Help Menu in your canvas account.
