Arturo Macias Franco beat all odds to achieve his education. Growing up in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico, listening to stories about his grandfather’s ranch and animals, he was drawn towards a life in agriculture and veterinary science, and wanted to be a veterinarian.

Napa Valley College awards first LGBT Studies degrees

Midday on Saturday, May 29, hundreds of students will participate in a “drive-thru” ceremony at Napa Valley College (NVC) with their families, to pick up their diploma cover and take photos marking the moment they receive their degrees and certificates. Among them, for the first time ever, will be two students who have earned associate of science degrees in LGBT education.

Napa Valley College has announced René Rubio as the 2021 recipient of the “Dr. Ed Shenk Excellence in Student Service Award.” The award was launched last year as a way to recognize and honor student service staff members who have contributed to the success of Napa Valley College students through activities that promote student learning, retention and growth.
