Jeff Dodd elected President of Napa Valley College Board of Trustees
The Napa Valley College board of trustees elected Jeff Dodd as board president for 2022 at its regular December board meeting. Dodd, who represents District 2, which encompasses the City of Napa, was elected to the NVC board of trustees in 2018 and served as vice president in 2021.
Dodd was born and raised in Napa. He is a partner at the law firm of Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP, where he practices environmental and water law. He attended Napa Valley College before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History. He then earned his Juris Doctorate degree (with honors) from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of law. During law school, Dodd clerked at the California Supreme Court for Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye.
“I am honored that my peers selected me for this leadership position, especially at a time when there are so many exciting changes that will be occurring at the college, including hiring a new, permanent superintendent,” said Dodd.
“As a community college, we’re being responsive to what is happening in the local job market, especially in this new COVID economy, and working hard to bring back students that we may have lost due to the pandemic,” Dodd added. “NVC’s classes and programs – whether it’s a special certification or an associate degree – put people on new career trajectories that can change their lives. To that end, the community will see the college rolling out some meaningful initiatives to help our current and incoming students succeed in the classroom and today’s economy.”
Dodd currently serves on the advisory board for 10,000 Degrees, which seeks to achieve educational equity and support students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to positively impact their communities and the world. He also serves on the board of directors of Community Health Initiative, which works to improve the health of children, families and seniors by providing greater access to healthcare. Dodd lives in Downtown Napa with his wife, Kelly, and their young sons, Hal and Casey.
Kyle Iverson, a licensed health and life insurance broker and resident of Napa County, who is currently serving his second four-year-term representing District 4, was elected vice president for 2022. Kyle served of president of the Board of Trustees in 2019 and currently represents the board on Napa Valley College Foundation.
By state law, the Napa Valley Community College District is under the control of a Board of Trustees composed of seven community members. Elected from within established areas of the district, trustees serve four-year terms.
