Napa Valley College Shelters Cats During Evacuation
On Monday September 28, as the Glass Fire began to spread and evacuation warnings and orders continued to grow, We Care Animal Rescue made the decision to evacuate their 80 plus cats to safety.
Napa Community Animal Response Team (CART) and Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch (JARR) helped We Care safely evacuate their cats to Napa Valley College, where they were housed until October 8.
“We have been extremely well taken care of here at Napa Valley College and our team has been doing some incredible work to keep our animals in their normal, happy routines,” shared We Care on their Facebook page.
During the Glass Fire, Napa Valley College served as a County evacuation shelter, serving nearly 90 people each night September 28 to October 2. Additionally, NVC provided shelter for evacuated animals September 28-October 8. After 12 days at the Napa Valley College evacuation shelter, We Care’s 88 felines were able to return home to their sanctuary in St. Helena.
Established in 1982, We Care Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization whose shelter serves as a refuge for homeless cats and dogs in the Napa Valley. They foster and promote the general welfare of animals by caring for homeless cats and dogs, finding homes for them and educating the public on animal welfare in the Napa Valley.
