The information that follows is a general explanation of logistical procedures during normal commencement ceremonies, year after year.
Start and End times of Ceremony
Start is usually at 6:00 PM; ending approx. at 8 p.m. depending on number of students who participate. Graduates must remain for the entire ceremony since conferment of their degree takes place after they walk the stage.
The ceremony is usually held at the Library Plaza Green near the Library and in front of the 2000 Life Science Building.
This is an outdoor ceremony, so dress appropriately depending on the weather forecast. Winds pick up in the early evening and it does get chilly in this area as the evening progresses. Guests are can also be exposed to the sun while the ceremony begins, so please wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. Plan ahead and check the weather forecast to plan accordingly.
Gathering of Graduates and Procession
Graduates usually line up in the Quad area next to the 900 Building, where the Bookstore is located, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friends and family should not accompany graduates to this gathering area. They should go directly to the Library Plaza to secure their seat. Graduates will have 1.5 hours to check-in, get their graduate card and line up before the procession begins at 5:55 p.m.
The Associated Students of Napa Valley College (ASNVC) usually host a graduation reception after the ceremony and graduates and their family and guests are invited to attend this free reception. The location of this year's reception is to be determined. Check back in the spring for updated information.
