The information that follows is a general explanation of procedures during normal commencement ceremonies, year after year.
Number of Guests to Bring to the Ceremony
Graduates are usually allowed to bring only 5 guests to the ceremony. No tickets are required at this point but depending on the number of students that confirm their attendance we might need to issue tickets. Please continue to check the Commencement website for updates.
Weather on Day of Ceremony
The ceremony is usually held in the outdoor Library Plaza Green regardless of the weather. Rain or shine, the ceremony will proceed as planned. Dress in layers as it does get windy as the evening progresses.
Procession of Graduates
Graduates will process/march from the north side of Campus and walk toward the Library Plaza green in front of the 2000 Life Science Building. Two faculty members and the valedictory speaker will lead the march.
After the ceremony, graduates will begin the recessional lead by the valedictory speaker down the Campus Mall to march in the middle of a corridor formed by the BOT members, faculty, administrators, and classified staff.
Guests must remain seated until all graduates have left their seats.
Use of Cameras & Video Equipment
For the convenience of the graduates, the college provides a professional photography service. Only authorized photographers, including media photographers, are allowed within the restricted areas near the stage.
Guests are allowed to take pictures or video during the ceremony but must be mindful of all restricted areas. Please do not block any aisles or the view of others by standing. Please squat when taking pictures in the aisles near the cement area. Ushers will be monitoring these restricted areas and asking guests to move if necessary.
Use of Cell Phones
All cell phones must be completely turned off. Please be considerate of others and show your respect to the graduates and speakers by adhering to these recommendations and allowing everyone to enjoy the ceremony. It is very frustrating to hear people talking on their cell phones while there is a speaker at the podium.
Lost and Found
If you loose an item while on campus, check with the College Police Department by calling (707) 256-7770. All lost and found items are turned in to them.
If anyone finds a lost item, please turn it in to the College Police (located in Bldg. 2250), to someone at the Common Post near the NVC Cafe (Bldg. 1700), or to any usher.
