The information that follows is a
general explanation of procedures during normal
commencement ceremonies, year after year.
Read the Official Graduate Invitation letter. This letter has not been sent yet. A survey was sent to all graduates on April 5, as well as a follow-up survey on April 27, to obtain your feedback. Any future communications will be sent only to your NVC email address.
Look for your name on the List of Approved 2019-2020 Graduates. If you do not see your name on the list, follow the instructions on how to verify the status of your graduation petition.
RSVP by calling (707) 256-7362 (MANDATORY). The RSVP deadline is TBD. Only students who appear on the list of Approved 2019-2020 Graduates or Candidates for Graduation should RSVP. If you are on the List of Approved Graduates and do not intend to participate in the ceremony, you do not need to RSVP.
Purchase your Academic Regalia (i.e., cap, gown and tassel) at the Napa Valley College Bookstore (On hold). Grad Fair originally scheduled for April 29 and April 30 has been cancelled. Regalia sizing is based on your height, so specific sizes might run out. Remember that you will still need to press your gown. Check with the NVC Bookstore webpage for updates on open/closed hours due to stay-at-home orders. Regular hours are Mon-Fri 7:30-5:00 p.m. and Fri 8:00-1:00 p.m. Their hours may vary on commencement days. The Bookstore is located in Building 900.
Attend the Rehearsal in the Quad (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). Date to be determined. This is not mandatory if taking a final or working, but it is mandatory of any student requesting special accommodations. The rehearsal can last 1.5-2 hrs. If you cannot attend the full rehearsal, show up for just one hour. *Graduates who cannot attend the rehearsal should plan to arrive early in the evening (times to be determined) to get a Graduate Information Card and have time to fill it out before going to line up.
Obtain a Graduate Information Card at the beginning of the rehearsal (MANDATORY). This card must be completely filled out on both sides before you walk up to the stage. Your name and one of your degrees will be read from this card--not from the program.
- On the top right hand corner print your name the way it is pronounced.
- Example: Dacia Manowski = Day-sha Man-now-ski
- A List of 2019-2020 Approved Graduates will become available online to verify the exact name of the degree(s) and/or certificate name you will be awarded.
- For a sample of how to correctly fill out your card, click on this Graduate Information Card.
- Click HERE to see how to phonetically spell out your name on the Graduate Information Card.
Stop at the Graduate Check-in Table (MANDATORY), next to the Bear Fountain, on the day of Commencement (4:30-5:50 p.m.). There you will pick up the following before lining up in the Quad:
- your Graduate Information Card
- a Commencement program
Those who did not attend rehearsal MUST also stop at the graduate Check-in Table to:
- have their Graduate Information Card checked
- pick up a Commencement program
