New workforce training program at Napa Valley College focuses on lucrative careers in transportation, distribution and logistics
Napa Valley College has announced the launch of a new Regional Transportation, Distribution & Logistic (TDL) training program. Developed in partnership with the West Oakland Job Resource Center, this free pre-apprenticeship training will be offered at Napa Valley College starting January 18, 2022.
The TDL training program provides industry-specific, entry-level and skills advancement training that supports Bay Area TDL industry workforce needs, while creating employment and advancement opportunities for job seekers. Program participants will train for warehouse, logistics and Commercial A trucking driving employment opportunities, with starting salaries from $17-$22 per hour.
“This program meets the industry’s labor demand, which is only going to grow, with well-trained, well-qualified and fully vetted candidates,” said Dr. Doug Marriott, senior dean, career education and workforce development, at Napa Valley College.
“As the American and international supply chains continue to face obstacles, it is vital to prepare a workforce ready to meet current challenges and future demands. Employers are very excited about this program because it provides tremendous opportunities to get fully trained and certified candidates that come with a full range of skills that their industries need.”
The TDL sector moves people and products around the nation and the world. Participants in the program will have the opportunity to meet with transportation and logistics employers while training. Program training includes Commercial A truck driving permit test preparation, financial education workshops, job readiness, resume writing, interviewing skills and OSHA 10 and forklift safety certification, at no cost to the participant. The inaugural program runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from January 18 through February 4, 2022, at Napa Valley College’s main campus in Napa. After successful completion, trainees will participate in an additional four hours of forklift training. At the end of the cycle, Napa Valley College will host a hiring event and invite employers that need skilled warehouse workers.
