A pair of 90-minute self-defense classes will be held in the McCarthy Library Community Room from noon to 1:30 on Oct 2 and 3.
Offered to women only by the Napa Valley College Police Department, the Oct. 2 class, "Avoid . . . Resist . . . Escape," covers how to recognize, avoid and react to dangerous situations and how to resist and escape if you can't avoid a dangerous situation. The class is free.
The Oct. 3 class, "Pepper Spray," will be offered to anyone from noon to 1:30 in the community room. It will teach when it is legal to use pepper spray and how to safely deploy pepper spray. An inert spray will be used to allow students to practice on a target. A $20 fee will be collected at the time of the class. At the end of the class, each student will receive a live pepper spray canister.
