Experts will help students and their parents complete and submit financial aid applications online during a “Cash for College” workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Napa Valley College Library.
Computer labs will be used to file 2018-19 free applications for federal student aid or CA Dream Act applications in English or Spanish. The workshop will feature scholarship information, veterans’ assistance and foster youth assistance.
To complete the application process, please bring as many of the following items that apply to you.
Student’s Social Security number.
Student’s driver’s license.
Student’s Permanent Resident Card
Parent’s Social Security number.
Independent Student: Your Federal Income Tax Return (form 1040) and W-2 forms for 2016, and your spouse’s Tax Return and W-2 forms.
Dependent Student: Your parent’s Federal Income Tax Return (form 1040) and W-2 forms for 2016.
Students, if you had a job in 2016 and are not required to file a Federal Tax Return, please bring your W-2 forms or, if you do not have your W-2 forms, bring other records of the income you earned that year, such as check stubs.
Students and Parents, bring records of other untaxed income received, such as workman’s compensation, disability, child support, veteran’s benefits, military or clergy allowance, assets, etc. received during the 2016 calendar year.
Please note: Monies received by guardians for students who are wards/dependents of the court should not be listed towards the students’ income.
If you have a checking or savings account, please have the current value of these accounts.
If you have stocks, bonds, trust accounts or other investments, please have the current value of these assets.
If you own a business or investment farm, please have the net value of these assets.
A list of colleges and universities you may be interested in attending during the 2018-2019 academic year. (July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019).
These items are necessary to complete the FAFSA application, but not necessary to participate in the Oct. 7 workshop or gain assistance regarding federal and state financial aid options.
