Results of the 2017 Jessamyn West Creative Writing Contest have been announced.
For fiction, judged by Peg Alford Pursell, the winners are:
"God's Face," by Gabriel Narciso, first prize.
"Hazy Napa Valley," by Jim McDonald, second prize.
"Searching," by Kevin Rebultan, third prize.
For poetry, judged by Dean Rader, the winners are:
"Rothko #207," by Jim McDonald, first prize.
"Arctic Spring along the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline," by Erika Gottl, second prize.
"Old Joy," by Erika Gottl, third prize.
"Stars," by Jacqueline Viernes, honorable mention.
For nonfiction, judged by Lisa Michaels, the winners are:
"Four Years in the Making," by Sierra Smith, first prize.
"Spaghetti and Meatballs," by Virginia Meyer, second prize.
"English Teachers," by Dina Corcoran, third prize.
Art contest winners for the Jessamyn West Creative Writing Contest Anthology are:
"Uptown World," by Nicolai Sholders, first prize, which will be used as the cover of the anthology.
"Untitled," by Anahi Fregoso; "Grid #10," by Jim McDonald; "Tiger," by Miguel Oseguera; and "On My Way," by Ashley Pascaua, honorable mentions that will be used as dividers between the college and high school sections.
The art contest was judged by Amanda Badgett, NVC Art History Professor, and Chelsea Gilmore, NVC Studio Arts Instructor.
