How Shakespeare Won the West
By Richard Nelson
Directed by Jennifer King
May 2 - 10, 2014

Jennifer King, Artistic Director of Napa Valley Conservatory Theater at Napa Valley College has assembled a superb cast for the upcoming production of How Shakespeare Won the West to life, opening May 2 and running through May 10.  Directed by King, the play tells the story of a ragtag troupe of actors as they head West during the Gold Rush, seeking fortune and fame performing Shakespeare for enthusiastic '49ers. But with stiff competition, romantic entanglements, and an Indian Chief who seems himself in King Lear, their ambitious cross-country adventure is complicated by the teeming challenges and glories of the new American frontier.  Embracing the greatest elements of Shakespearean comedy and American vaudeville, this jubilant celebration of the human spirit is by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Richard Nelson.

The cast includes: Richard Pallaziol (Thomas Jefferson Calhoun); Linda Howard (Alice Calhoun); Fiorella Garcia (Susan Calhoun); Juan Manuel Salcito (Hank Daley); Brianna McFadden (Kate Denim); David Foushee (George Demerest); Ted von Pohle (Edward Oldfield); Miles Ainley (John Gough); Kevin Rebultan (Buck Buchanan); Jessica Romero (Ruth Oldfield); Trevor Allen (George Edgar Rice); Deanna Maher (Ellen Bateman); Cassidy Slater (Kate Bateman); and Alex Basta and Nick Major comprise the Ensemble, Under Studies and other multiple roles.

The design team is comprised of Jenn Ruygt (Scenic Design), Pamela Johnson (Costume Design), Skipper Skeoch (Assistant Costume Design), Theo Bridant (Lighting Design), and Jordan Smetzer (Sound Design).

The Production Team is Kathryn Williams (Assistant Director), Jenn Ruygt (Interim Technical Director), Fernando Espinoza (Stage Manager), Cassidy Slater (Assistant Stage Manager), and Tim Holtslag (Scenic Artist).
