College closes early Tuesday
due to road closures, city alert
The Upvalley campus of Napa Valley College closed early Tuesday due to employee safety concerns as road conditions continue to worsen in the ongoing storm.
College Police Chief Ken Arnold said the action was taken as the City of St. Helena sent out a storm advisory regarding road closures.
According to Arnold, the city advisory reads:
"With Silverado Trail closed at Pratt Avenue and Pope Street due to rock slides, if the roads flood on Deer Park Road, Lodi Lane, and Glass Mountain Road, as they did on Sunday, there will be no access to Deer Park or Angwin, and specifically St. Helena Hospital.
"With the current weather forecast to continue this rate of rain, these roads could be flooded as early as 4 p.m. today. This is an estimate, and should not be taken as concrete. We are advising people to take precautions, and be prepared to be shut off to/from Angwin through Deer Park," the advisory reads.
Arnold said he is optimistic the Upvalley campus will re-open Wednesday.
