Bob Van Der Velde has been hired as the new Dean for the Divisions of Social Sciences and Science, Math, and Engineering, announced Erik Shearer, Interim Vice President, Instruction.
He holds a B.A. in Political Science from The Ohio State University, and a Masters in Urban Studies and a J.D. degree from Cleveland State University.
He practiced law in the federal courts in Ohio and elsewhere, and about 25 years ago got his start in higher education as an adjunct professor at a community college in Ohio.
In 1995, Bob joined the faculty at Auburn University, Montgomery, teaching law to undergraduate and graduate criminal justice and paralegal students, eventually becoming Department Head and serving as Faculty Senate President.
In 2003, he accepted the position of chief faculty personnel officer and Professor at Eastern Michigan University.
In 2010 he began work as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Palm Beach State College (formerly Palm Beach Community College) where he oversaw business, science, technology, and allied health programs at the second-largest of PBSC's five campuses, a campus roughly the same size as Napa Valley College.
