NAPA VALLEY COLLEGE'S 40TH ANNUAL TRANSFER DAY SEPT. 10, 2014, 9:30 A.M. – 1 P.M.
Event featuring more than 50 colleges is open to the public
Representatives from more than 50 colleges and universities will be available to discuss educational opportunities with students and members of the public Wednesday, Sept. 10, during Napa Valley College's 40th annual Transfer Day, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the McCarthy Library Plaza on the main campus, 2277 Napa-Vallejo Highway, Napa. This public event marks four decades of Napa Valley College as a proven local pathway to four-year degree-granting institutions.
The event is a "one-stop-shop" for attendees to gather information about a variety of higher education options in the Bay Area, statewide, and beyond. Last year, 1,500 people attended Napa Valley College Transfer Day, including 100 from local high schools.
"Transfer Day is an opportunity for Napa Valley College students and the community at large to learn about a rich variety of college transfer options both near and far," said Napa Valley College Vice President of Student Services Oscar De Haro. "With representatives on hand from colleges with programs that align with our students' career and life goals, Napa Valley College Transfer Day gives attendees a great opportunity to directly ask questions and interact with colleges beyond Napa Valley College, so that they can confidently learn about how to plan for their transfer success after Napa Valley College."
In 2013-2014, nearly 300 Napa Valley College students directly transferred to University of California and California State University schools, with an additional estimated 90 Napa Valley College students transferring to out-of-state and private four-year degree-granting institutions. Additionally, approximately 75% of all Napa Valley College student athletes participating in organized Storm athletic teams successfully transfer each year. Recent Napa Valley College graduates have headed to UC Davis, Sonoma State University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, Cornell University, Mills College, St. Mary's College, the University of San Francisco, Pepperdine University, California College of the Arts, and many others.
With the cost of attending a four-year degree-granting institution soaring, students can accrue substantial savings by starting their post-secondary education at Napa Valley College and then transferring to complete their degrees. Napa Valley College students who transfer to a UC or CSU campus can receive their degrees in two years and save more than 70% on tuition and fees.
Napa Valley College currently offers 15 state-approved Associate Degrees for Transfer, in majors ranging from art history to mathematics.
"Giving students access to affordable, quality education in preparation for college or university success is our top priority," said Napa Valley College President Ron Kraft. "With events such as Transfer Day, we help students identify their pathway to their educational futures and chosen careers."
In addition to meeting college and university representatives, Transfer Day attendees can discuss their transfer pathway options with staff from Napa Valley College's Transfer Center and Financial Aid Office.
They can also learn about programs at Napa Valley College which support transfer pathways, including the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program, whereby those meeting campus-specific requirements secure guaranteed transfer admission to participating University of California campuses and selected private colleges.
